Well, I’ve met the neighbors on both sides of us now. We met Barry and Mary last weekend. They came over to introduce themselves and gave us a plant with yellow flowers. They seemed very nice.
Yesterday I got to meet Gary on the other side of us. I don’t think I could have made the introduction more awkward…ok, maybe if I was in a towel or something, but yeah….AWKWARD/EMBARRASSING!!!
Here I am running out on the deck to flip the bookshelf over before I head out to meet someone I’ll be teaching for next weekend. Once I got done I turned back around to go back inside the side door. Yeah, well, that would have been a grand thing if I COULD have gotten in! I was locked out of the house!
I walked around checking all the doors even though I knew they were all locked. I even walked around looking for an easy way to break in w/o ruining screens or something. No such luck. I’m standing here panicking about what I’m going to do. I have no phone to call anyone…no keys to get in my car…no way into the house…and I’m wearing my p.j.’s, barefoot, lotion covered face with some make-up streaks under the eyes, haven’t showered, and I’m WITHOUT a BRA!!! Yeah, no bra or anything…
I then reluctantly knock on Mary and Barry’s door hoping that the wife would answer considering the condition that I’m in, and they’re the only people I’ve met so far. No such luck either… Then, even more reluctantly, I walk over to the older bachelor guy’s house who I have yet to meet. He answers the door and I hold out my hand and say, “Hi, I’m Tonya Barger, your new neighbor. I locked myself out of the house and was wondering if I could use your phone, please.” He acts a bit taken aback and unsure about things and hands me the cordless phone outside. Then I have to ask for a phone book as well cuz I don’t know the number to Hy-Vee so that I can call Matt. He then decides to let me in and starts talking my ear off as I stand there barefoot, in p.j.s, holding at least one arm across my chest at ALL times! He seemed nice and became very chatty, but yeah…how embarrassing!
I went back in after that. (More on the animals at a later date.) This left me at the house with no way across town. Well not until someone came and picked me up. Matt’s parents, Dad, Sue, Clay, Kathy, Tammy, T.J., and Courtney helped us out that day. T.J. even mowed the lawn! What a blessing!
Kudos for us!
Can’t wait! I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about where I want this or that. I’m trying to figure it all out in my head since I can’t just move it all over there right now and try this or that set up. If you didn’t get a chance to view realtor before they took our house down you can see pictures and read my commentary in an album I created on Facebook.
